TapToRead Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how TapToRead, developed by Quantum Software, handles information when you use the TapToRead mobile application.

TapToRead is an educational reading application that allows users to capture printed or handwritten pages, recognise words, tap words to hear them spoken, translate recognised text and practise reading.

1. Information TapToRead Processes

Camera and Images

TapToRead may request access to your device camera so that you can photograph books, worksheets, printed materials or handwriting.

Images captured for reading and text-recognition features are used to provide the functionality requested by the user.

Text recognition is performed by components running on the user's device. TapToRead does not upload captured book, worksheet or handwriting images to a TapToRead user account server for text recognition.

Saved Books and Pages

Pages saved through TapToRead's My Books and handwriting features are stored on the user's device.

The FREE version limits the number of items that may be saved. TapToRead PLUS removes these application limits.

2. TapToRead FREE

TapToRead FREE can be used without creating an account, signing in or providing an email address.

TapToRead does not require your name, email address, Google account or other personal account information in order to use the application's core reading features.

3. TapToRead PLUS

TapToRead PLUS is an optional paid subscription or purchase provided through Google Play.

TapToRead does not require users to create a TapToRead account, provide an email address or sign in with Google in order to use PLUS features.

When a user purchases or subscribes to TapToRead PLUS, the application may use information supplied by Google Play, such as purchase information, subscription identifiers and purchase tokens, to determine whether PLUS access has been purchased and remains available.

TapToRead does not receive or store the user's Google account password.

4. Google Play Subscription and Purchase Information

TapToRead PLUS is offered through Google Play. Purchases and payment processing are handled by Google Play.

TapToRead does not directly collect or store your credit card, debit card or other payment-card details.

To verify a PLUS purchase or subscription, TapToRead may send subscription-related information, including a Google Play purchase token and subscription identifiers, to the TapToRead server.

The TapToRead server may retain information necessary to determine whether the associated Google Play purchase or subscription is active, expired, cancelled or otherwise entitled to PLUS features.

This purchase and subscription information is used only to provide and verify the requested PLUS entitlement and to prevent unauthorised use of PLUS features.

5. Translation

TapToRead provides translation and language-learning features for supported languages.

Where on-device translation models are used, the required language model may first need to be downloaded to your device.

Recognised text processed by these on-device translation features does not need to be sent to the TapToRead account server for translation.

6. Text-to-Speech

TapToRead uses text-to-speech functionality to allow users to hear recognised words, sentences and translated text.

Text-to-speech may use speech services available on your Android device. The behaviour of a speech engine may depend on the speech engine and language installed on the device.

7. Information Stored on Our Server

TapToRead does not maintain a user account system and does not require users to provide an email address, name or other account profile information.

The TapToRead server may process or retain limited technical and purchase-related information necessary to provide TapToRead PLUS, verify Google Play purchases or subscriptions, prevent misuse and maintain the service.

Depending on the purchase and verification process, this information may include:

• Google Play purchase tokens
• Google Play subscription or product identifiers
• Subscription entitlement or status information
• Dates related to purchase or subscription activity
• Technical information required to verify and maintain the service

TapToRead does not use this information to create a personal TapToRead account or require the user to provide an email address for application access.

8. Information We Do Not Sell

Quantum Software does not sell TapToRead users' personal information to advertisers or data brokers.

TapToRead does not use children's captured reading material for advertising.

9. Advertising

TapToRead does not currently contain third-party advertising.

TapToRead does not require an advertising account or advertising profile in order to use its reading features.

10. Children's Privacy

TapToRead is designed as a reading and learning tool that may be used by children with the involvement of a parent, guardian or teacher.

TapToRead does not require a child to create an account, provide an email address or sign in to use the application.

TapToRead does not require children to provide their name, email address or other personal account information in order to use the application's reading and learning features.

Users should not enter unnecessary personal or sensitive information into pages being scanned with the application.

Purchases of TapToRead PLUS through Google Play should be made or authorised by a parent or guardian when required by applicable laws, Google Play requirements or the user's circumstances.

11. Permissions

Depending on the features you use, TapToRead may request Android permissions such as:

• Camera — used to capture pages for reading and text recognition.
• Internet access — used when downloading required models, verifying Google Play purchases or subscriptions, or communicating with TapToRead online services.
• Notifications — if notification functionality requiring permission is used on supported Android versions.

TapToRead requests permissions only when they are required by application functionality.

12. Third-Party Services

TapToRead may use services provided by third parties to provide application functionality. These may include:

• Google Play for application distribution and subscriptions
• Google Android and ML components used by supported app features
• On-device or platform-provided language and speech services, where applicable

TapToRead does not use Google Sign-In or another third-party account login as a requirement for using the application.

These third-party services may process information according to their own privacy policies.

13. Data Security

We use reasonable technical measures designed to protect information handled by TapToRead.

Communication between the TapToRead application and its online services is transmitted using HTTPS.

No method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

14. Data Retention

Purchase and subscription information processed by the TapToRead server is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to verify PLUS entitlement, provide the service, prevent misuse, meet legal or accounting requirements, resolve disputes and maintain the service.

TapToRead does not retain a personal user account containing an email address or profile information because TapToRead does not require such an account.

Information stored locally by the application may remain on the device until it is removed through the application, cleared from Android application storage or the application is uninstalled, depending on the type of information.

15. Account and Data Deletion

TapToRead does not require or maintain a personal user account. Therefore, there is no TapToRead login account or email-based account that a user needs to delete.

Users may remove locally stored TapToRead data by using the application's available data-management features, clearing the application's storage through Android settings, or uninstalling the application, depending on the type of data.

Google Play purchase and subscription records are managed by Google Play and may be subject to Google's own retention policies.

Uninstalling TapToRead does not automatically cancel an active Google Play subscription.

16. Managing or Cancelling TapToRead PLUS

TapToRead PLUS subscriptions are managed through Google Play. Users can view, manage or cancel subscriptions through their Google Play account.

TapToRead does not require users to sign in to a TapToRead account in order to use PLUS.

Uninstalling TapToRead does not automatically cancel an active Google Play subscription.

17. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when TapToRead features, legal requirements or data-handling practices change.

When changes are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be updated.
